Storm

We have had a major noreaster over the past 24 hours and it is still snowing. I guess we have about 15 inches, hard to tell because of the drifts. I won't be going anywhere today. but really hope to get back to my studio before the week is out. The wind was so strong that it blew down a large tree in our neighbor's yard which landed on his garage and deck and in front of our garage. Fortunately it appears that our gargage is fine, but won't be able to get my car out till the branches are gone.

New dog

We spent Christmas at our middle daughter's this year and the family gave themselves another dog. She is a French bulldog 8 weeks old. So cute. Their Golden isn't sure about her yet, but I'm sure they will become great friends.

Studio...

It has been an exceptionally busy time the past few weeks, leaving little time to paint. I was readying for Open Studios, which was last weekend. Here is a pic of a portion of the stuio. A very successful event, many people and best of all sales. Then there was preparation for Thanksgiving, 12 in all, small this year, but nice family get together. I am a total slug today. I hope to do some work in December, but probably not a lot until the new year.
Being thankful for all the wonderful blessings.

something different

Finally got back here. This is a busy time geting ready for Open Studios. We are doing our fundraiser again this year. Everyone who wants to participate is given a 5 x 7 piece of paper to do whatever they want on it. The group mats it, puts it in a plastic bag and it is sold for $25 and 10% of the proceeds goes to a local charity in town. Last year was okay, but we are hoping to do better this year. Here is my piece, 5 x 7 on 300lbWC paper, goauche as a medium. It was fun to do.

Updates

Here is an update to the Raggedy drawing. I finished the drawing and have started putting in some color. This will take awhile, but I know I will enjoy working on it from time to time.

Gift

A friend of mine called a few weeks ago and wanted to know if we could use a flat file....wow, something that I always wanted. It had belonged to an artist who had moved away and couldn't use it. 10 drawers, all wood and in decent shape. YES, YES, YES. I wasn't sure where we would put it, but there had to be space. We found a place, a perfect spot actually and my husband made a top for it. All 3 of us will use it..Here it is! and it's on wheels..how great is that!

Long term project

I have set up a very large still life which I plan to work on over the next few months, a little at a time. It will be somewhat like working on a jigsaw puzzle, in that I can put it aside and work on something else and then come back to it. I am going to do it in colored pencil, a drawing, which I love to just sit and do from time to time. Here is the still life and the beginning drawing. The flash kind of made the drawing colors funny, but it wouldn't take the picture without the flash, a dark day. It is on Stonehenge paper about 32" x 44", but may be a little smaller when I crop it. The backgound will be the quilt. I'll post progress from time to time.

Briefly back

I can't believe it has been so long since I posted. It has been a very busy month. I was preparing work for a new card shop in Plymouth opened by a good friend of mine. I have been making many giclee prints of my work, plus note cards and bookmarks. I then had to mat and bag all the prints.
In the meantime we took a small vacation to upper state NY. When I returned, I finished up and brought all the work to the store.
I then began to get work ready for a show with my 2 studio mates and another artist. The 4 of us have a show at the Science center in Norwell during Sept. and Oct. We hung it yesterday and it took us 3 hours!! Longer than we thought, but it is up and looks good.
Now I will be getting ready for my daughter and granddaughter's visit this weekend to move her back into college in Boston. Next week I'll be back at the studio.

I think Angel is finished now. I finally got back to my studio after a week away from there. I put some cucumbers on a plate as Angel LOVES cucumbers and she was actually looking at a plate of them.

Raggedy Ann

This is the second year that one of our local art associations is having their OTB(outside the box)
auction. This is a fundraiser for an addition and improvements to their building. I had such fun doing it last year that I did it again this year. I did another colored pencil and I think it is finished now.

6"x6" oil pastel

Finally finished another small painting to make 10 all together. This is another variation of the scallions. oil pastel on gessoed board.

angel update

Here is another update to Angel. Almost finished, but I didn't know what to do with the strip left at the bottom as it seemed so plain. She did have her paws on a table in the ref photo and was eyeing a plate of cucumbers, which she loves. I decided to put the edge of a plate there with a cucumber on it.

Dog update

Finally got back to this for a day as my studio has been so hot over the last week. The oil pastels were working today though for awhile. Thoughts of an AC in the studio is looming. 3 of us share the space so we would split the cost.
I have work to do on the paws and in the ref image they are very dark and I am thinking of making them lighter. I really would like to get this finished by the end of the week.

updates

Here are some updates for the morning glories and the dog. I had some good time in my studio today so worked on several things. The oil pastels were a little soft due to the warm temps, which made layering a little difficult. That is why it is nice to have several paintings going at once.
I did notice that Angel's nose was too small so had to change that. Still more to do on each painting.

another update

Here is another update to the morning glories. I worked on the big flower, still have the right side of it to do. I had to put it aside to work on the dog I am doing as time is running short for this.

This is for my grandaughter who will give it to her boyfriend for his birthday. It is his dog named Angel and she is a pit bull. Only my second dog portrait, very hard. This is also done in oil pastel.

Another 6x6 oil pastel

Our opening was very nice despite the weather. We had a nice group come and it was small enough that you could talk to everyone. The weather did get better as the afternoon progressed.
Finally, got back to the studio to do some art work and finished another small oil pastel and another in the works. These scallions were from Marie's garden, wintered over.

6x6 oil pastel done

The past few weeks have been incredibly busy and stressful. Now subsiding a little, but still busy. I did manage to get another little painting done though.

6" x6" oil pastel on gessoed board of a small purple top turnip. The turnip was petrified by the time I finished....LOL

Another day

Another day at the studio with my sister. She continued to work on her basket and get it to a portable stage to take home.

I finished my 6"x6" oil pastel of the garlic. We had a nice 2 days together depite the rain...

Sister time

My sister and her husband stopped by for a few days visit. They were on their way back to Vermont after spending a few weeks on Martha's Vineyard. They arrived on Sunday and left today and it rained the whole time. My sister makes beautiful basksets and she had her materials with her, so on Monday we spent the day at my studio so we could both do work. She started a new basket.

And I worked on my 6x6 garlic.

Another 6x6 WIP

Just so you all know that I am doing some work....here is another 6x6 started. I won't be back to the studio for 10 days as I have a ton of company coming during that time, sister and husband, daughter, husband and grandchildren. It will be nice seeing them all though and then a big bash on Easter. I also have an opening on Sunday of work by 4th floor artists.
This is an oil pastel on gessoed board primed with colorfix.

Back to the studio

Well I finally went back to my studio today after being away for a week. I was laid up with bronchitis, plus it RAINED for 3 days, leaving 8 inches. Today dawned beautiful and sunny and warm. I continued to work on another 6x6 oil pastel and thought it was finished but realized it needed something else. I sketched in a little piece of glass to help balance the composition. Too wet to put it in today so wil finish it when I go back. Also started another one. Here are the rocks so far.
